This is an original, vintage example of ‘The Bulb’ table lamp, designed by Ingo Maurer in 1966 and styled to resemble an oversized light bulb.

Apparently Maurer had his, ahem, lightbulb moment in Venice in 1965, lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, from where a single light bulb shone down on him. He fell so much in love with this naked, simple light bulb that he was inspired to create his first lamp: The Bulb. And this is one of them — produced by Studio M with a handblown glass shade and chromed base (with original felt).

These cast a fantastic light, the shade is faultless and there is only minor rubbing to the base.
