I have here for sale a book entitled THE LIVES AND CHARACTERS OF THE ANCIENT GRECIAN POETS by Basil Kennet.  It is a first edition published by Abel Swall at The Unicorn, London in 1697.  It has an illustrated frontispiece and 12 portraits throughout the book of some of the individual poets.  The book is divided into 2 parts.  The first part covers 16 poets and the second part 22 poets.  All the most well known ones are included like Homer, Hesiod, Anacreon, Sophocles, Euripides, Theocritus, Apollonius, etc.  Also includes lady poet Sappha.

Traditional leather Cambridge binding with 5 raised bands to the spine.  Title lettering is missing.  Rear board a little loose, the front one very loose.  Some wear to board edges, corners and hinges.  A few foxed pages and fore-edges are sunned, binding tight.  189 + 82 pages.  20 x 12 cm.
