USSR Currency 100 Ruble Note Series 1991

Cold War Era authentic Soviet Union one hundred ruble note depicting the father of the Bolshevik Party, and the leader of the October Revolution of 1917, Vladimir Lenin.

These banknotes are of the second design, with guilloche, of the 1991 series 100 rouble notes of the "Pavlov Reform," and were issued just prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. They replaced 1961 Khrushchev era 100 ruble bills (see my other items), which were demonetized and withdrawn from circulation. Abruptly announced by President Gorbachev on Soviet national T.V. as a way to root out forgeries, ill-gotten-gains, tax cheats and mobsters, the currency reform was, in reality, a devaluation of the ruble. Unfortunately for the Kremlin the measure was too little, and too late, to save the ruble from ruin. Instead, it became a contributing factor in the downfall of the USSR.

The authentic hand selected banknotes are in circulated (used) condition, and rate an old-school VG+. Conditions sound. Notes: paper solid; no rips, seps, fold cracks, and no funky aroma. Will have slight edge wear and foxing, occasional staple hole, and other signs of use; may show creases and folds; minor surface dirt, notations, and/or small stains; Details clear. Examples are pictured above. For students, educators, and collectors alike. Great at flea markets, swap meets, and rummage sales. Makes a nice gift pack for the old cold warrior, or history buff in your life! Serial numbers and dates will vary, but the Quality will not!
