Brook 'Industria' Antique Motoring Trunk 1920-29 by J. B. Brooks and Co. of Birmingham

A large stylish early 20th Century motoring trunk by J. B. Brooks and Co. of Birmingham, (now famous for making bicycle saddles) typically made for Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles.

The 'Brooks Industria Chested Trunk' would have originally comprised of the outer trunk with two inner cases that slid out independently (these are have been lost in time). The sturdy trunk is black Rexine (a coated cotton fabric) with a two part hinged drop down lid and front, fitted with metal lock and mounts, with two large stitched and studded leather carrying handles either side. There are two small metal Brooks 'Industria' badges fitted to either side of the trunk and a wooden frame base.

Ideal for the motoring enthusiast, it would also make a great chest of drawers for the home. There are internal runners so a shelf could be inserted where the upper case one sat.

Brooks have informed me that the trunks were "made at our former Criterion Works premises, which was located in central Birmingham - on the corner of Great Charles Street and Livery Street (adjacent to Snow Hill Railway Station).

These trunks were produced during the early years of the Motor Car and would have been placed either of the roof of the car, or in the rear boot area.

The style of locks on the trunks were invented and patented by Brooks. "

The trunk is in good condition with wear appropriate to it's age and extensive travel.

The case's previous owner Donald Carpenterl used the trunk on his travels throughout Africa in 1950's.

There is a small area of damage on the front of the case as pictured.
