The plot takes place in a dystopian future where the world is thrown into chaos after a nuclear war. Resources are scarce and society is on the verge of collapse. Max Rockatansky, played by Mel Gibson, is a police officer who tracks down criminals on the desert roads of Australia. When his family is brutally murdered by a biker gang, Max sets out on a ruthless quest for revenge.
