Not price-clipped. 255 illustrations, including 50 plates in full color. 9 3/4" by 12 1/4". 293 pp. This book was published to accompany the touring exhibition which commenced at the National Gallery of Art, Washington from 18 March to 3 June 1990 and then toured to New York, Moscow and Leningrad. It explores the radiant paintings and drawings created during a pivotal phase of Matisse's career - his two visits to Tangier in early 1912 and in the winter of 1912-13. Matisse completed 23 paintings and more than 65 pen and ink drawings on these trips.
