I have here for sale a beautifully bound 2-book set entitled SCANDINAVIAN ADVENTURES, during a Residence of Upwards of Twenty Years, representing sporting incidents and subjects of natural history, and devices for entrapping wild animals with some account of the Northern fauna, Vols I and II by L Lloyd, published in 1854 by Richard Bentley, London.  There are 13 full page lithographic plates in total across the two volumes - 7 in Vol I and 6 in Vol II (including a colour map) and 102 b/w wood engravings in the text.  One of the best accounts of 19th century Scandinavian, mainly Swedish, peasant hunting and fishing, with many interesting ethnographical and zoological observations.

Beautifully bound in quarter calf leather on brown and yellow marbled hardboards.  5 raised bands with tooling in black and gilt and gilt lettering to the spines.  Boards are in fine/mint condition.  Bookplate for the well known bibliophile, Stephen Entwistle, to the front endpapers (😉).  Marbled page edges.  Some oxidization to the plates which has transferred to adjacent pages a little.  One detached tissue guard in Vol II.  All other pages clean.  Vol I - 512 pages, Vol II - 527 pages.  25 x 16 cm.
