Fisher Electronics was founded in 1945 by Avery Fisher, considered a pioneer in high fidelity audio equipment who manufactured high-performance audio products under the trade name "The Fisher". Released in 1975, the Model 232 was part of their "Studio-Standard" series that boasted stunning looks, rugged construction and a wood veneered cabinet. With innovative design and modest power, the Model 232 is the perfect choice for those who prefer quality over volume!

In addition to the wide analog dial, the front panel has multi-position Speaker & Input selectors, individual Bass, Treble, Volume and Balance controls, and buttons for Tape Monitor, FM Muting, Stereo/Mono and a Loudness button that contours the sound dynamics perfectly for low level listening.

The manual gives this a "Continuous Power" rating of 48 Watts, or 24 W/Ch into 8Ω through full spectrum and both channels fully driven. Remember, these are what audiophiles call "Vintage Watts," from an era where, unlike today, it was a sin to manipulate or elaborate the power ratings!

The front panel has a 1/4" Headphone jack while the rear offers two Speaker zones, Aux input, Tape Loop, and a stereo Phono Input with a grounding post for your turntable! It also has multiple Antenna terminals, attached AM Antenna, a switched AC outlet, and access to the power and protection fuses. It weighs in at just under 18 lbs and measures a compact 13-3/4" x 5-1/4" x 17-1/8" wide!

By "The Best, Ltd." policy all units over 25 lbs are double-boxed for se6-1/2cure shipment. This model is a bit under but considering it's vintage and value, we'll still give it the high-end treatment. The Free Shipping is for the Lower 48 only, HI & AK must select USPS Priority shipping at checkout! Insurance & Signature are covered on us! Condition:

This beautiful receiver is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and a nice, clean front panel! Aside from a few scuffs to the lid and some bubbling to the veneer, the only other thing worth mentioning is a little worn text and just a few light scuffs to the front panel, most too faint to make out well in the pics. All the original knobs are present & complete, as are the feet and attached AM Antenna and AC cord. The manual has gone missing and we weren't able to find a free download online. But no worries, if you have any issues just use our Free Support and we'll be glad to help! Please do inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.

Service:

On inspection, this unit worked fine with just a little scratchiness to the knobs and a few lamps out, but they all go to our tech for the usual servicing.

A few lamps were still working, but as they are bound to fail we just replace them all with LED's so you won't have to worry about them ever again. White LED's were installed in the dial and meter that replicate the original incandescents nicely. Even the Stereo indicator and hard to replace pointer lamp were upgraded so you won't have to worry about them either. In fact, we weren't happy with the lack of illumination the unidirectional LED's give on these pointers, others just resort to using an incandescent. But as longevity is the whole idea behind the LED upgrade, our tech has come up with a custom way to install a 1-segment LED that illuminates the pointer much better. It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician.

All vintage receivers receive the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician:

Lid is removed & unit is inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacement
The exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailed
While the front panel is removed for cleaning, all attachments are re-glued and dried out foam inserts replaced.
All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers), while those with special needs receive the less aggressive DeoxIT F-5
All lamps that are out, or believed to be prone to failure, are replaced if necessary. LEDs are used whenever compatible
Any faulty components, or those with known issues, such as jacks, fuse-holders, feet, etc., are replaced
All PC boards are inspected; all questionable solder joints are re-flowed
All electrolytic caps are inspected for bulging or leakage, those that are at risk or have known issues are checked with the Huntron Tracker (allows evaluation while in-circuit so component does not need to be removed). All questionable caps are replaced with brand new parts, not NOS!
DC offset is adjusted & channel levels are calibrated & balanced
Tuner is cleaned and both AM & FM aligned
Front panel is cleaned & detailed before reassembly
Cabinet is cleaned & detailed, those with wood are polished with Old English

Testing:

After servicing, we set it up on our test bench and it did not disappoint, both channels drove our speakers with the powerful, warm, distortion-free signal these analog receivers are known for. All inputs and features were confirmed operational and the tuner spins smoothly. Even though we are in a remote area it was able to pull in all our local FM stations with the included wire antenna, activating the tuning meter and lighting the Stereo indicator. Further testing was performed, if there is a specific feature you would like to know more about just let us know before buying. What a great find for the vintage audiophile!

Please remember, there are multiple ways to measure output wattage, "Peak," "Music," "RMS", "Continuous," "Maximum," & "Total" just to name a few. In addition, this value can change drastically depending on the impedance of the speakers being driven. Typically, our title will give the most reasonable "Total watts" value, while the description will give more detailed information. We suggest you do independent research to be assured you are making informed comparisons when shopping.
