Beautiful head of a Benin OBA King in bronze.
The King has a very typical crown with tribal figurations, scarifications in the face and rings around the neck.
This bronze head is of high quality and was made with the “cire perdue technique”, and is therefore unique in its kind. Beautifully finished off in detail, it has a wonderful brown patina.
Almost all Benin art was created to honor the king, or Oba, who has reigned, with his ancestors, from the 15th century. Each is sculpted by hand, then cast in bronze.
Good condition, but with possible signs of use and normal holes of cast glitches. Please study the photos well.
