The American Silver Eagle is struck in one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver and has a face value of one dollar. The obverse features the iconic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, while the reverse shows either a heraldic eagle with a shield and thirteen stars (Type 1) or a bald eagle landing on a branch (Type 2). The Type 2 design was introduced in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagle program and to enhance the security and anti-counterfeiting features of the coin.
