[Amelia Elizabeth] Caroline of Brunswick (1768-1821) was wife of George IV. She was forced on the King by George III and was persecuted by George's mistresses and deserted by her husband after the birth of Charlotte Augusta (1796). She was censured for the improprieties of unguarded speech and travelled on the Continent until George III's death. She later refused a settlement offer, because she was asked to renounce the title of Queen. She gained popular support and was able to secure the abandonment of a bill that would have forced her divorce based on reports of her adultury with an Italian nobleman Bergami. She was forcibly excluded from Westminster on coronation day.

Bound in black half leather on brown marbled hardboards.  4 wide gilt decorated raised bands, dark brown title and volume blocks with gilt lettering/numbering.  Small chip to the head of Vol II's spine.  Rubbing to the marbled paper and to board edges.  All boards firm.  Some pages are sunned or have slight foxing and there is slight oxidization to the edges of some plates, but otherwise clean and tightly bound.  Vol I - 696 pages, Vol II 866 pages.  21 cm x 14 cm.
