Original fold-out 1853 antique lithographed diagram of piers and pilings under construction for the ice harbor on the east side of Reedy Island in the lower Delaware River.

  • The figures were traced from a drawing made by Lieutenant Thomas Lincoln Casey under the direction of Brevet Major John Sanders, United States Corps of Engineers, Fort Delaware.

  • The image area measures 34 x 51 cm [13½" x 20"].

  • A legend key gives information on the dimensions and arrangement of piers and pilings, as well as methods of attachment, on a scale of 1:96.

  • This sheet was lithographed by Wagner & McGuigan, Philadelphia and published in a report by the President of the United States to the First Session of the 33rd Congress, Washington, D.C., 1853.

  • Condition:  It is in very good condition, bright and clean, with folds, as issued, and no rips, tears, or writing. It is printed on a lightweight paper, typical of mid-19th century government fold-outs. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. It folds to approximately 5" x 8½". Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

  • This is an original, authentic antique lithograph, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.

  • The Reedy Island ice harbor was constructed to provide a protective haven for ships traveling on the Delaware River during the winter months when ice floes carried downstream would impede their safe transit.
