I am auctioning this ultra rare London Football Association Medal
in 15ct gold by Vaughton and Sons weight 9g 27mm diameter
very clear hallmark on the reverse dated 1910
The original recipient of this medal is unknown, the medal is uninscribed with the competition details. The medal was struck in 15ct. gold which is therefore unlikely to have been intended as a runners-up medal.

The London Challenge Cup was a football tournament formerly organised by the London FA. It was first contested in 1908, and other than during the World Wars, was contested every season until 1974, when the tournament was disbanded. After a 16-year hiatus, the tournament was resurrected in 1990–91, but only lasted 10 years before being once again discontinued.

The London Football Association (LFA) is unique for the reason that it is the only one founded by The Football Association. While others were founded to organise football locally around the country, Charles Alcock and Lord Kinnaird, then Secretary and Chairman of The FA, created the London FA to deal with local clubs and competitions while the main body focused on the Laws of the Game and international football matters.

In its original guise, the tournament was won by most of the major professional clubs in London such as ArsenalChelseaTottenham Hotspur and West Ham United,
  • When was 15ct gold used?
It was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931
