1920s style Heavy hand beaded gold couture flapper dress- could have been a costume for stage or film with the amount of handwork involved in the beading.

Dress is a mystery. Handmade and no tags or labels. Possibly a replica costume design? Maybe around the 70s or 80s. It’s handmade but I don’t think it’s from the 20s due to the condition of dress and the pearl beads looking acrylic- I could be wrong! It’s certainly OLD but my guess is it’s a replica .

The dress has an Art Deco style -Drop waist silhouette and fabulous double straps with a deep v neckline and back line that is hand embroidered with gold - bronze glass bugle beads. Waist has embroideries with white pearls. Silk crepe material that is a khaki-gold color. Slight soiling at side seams. Small loose threads, few missing beads here and there . Some of the design motif is missing beads on bust and back. You can see the outline where the beads were placed - see pictures . Good condition and shows wear but overall decent shape. Very heavy at least 5 pounds. Purchased at a French flea Market.

Bugle Beads are glass and pearls are possibly glass coated with paint or plastic/acrylic.

Length :42 inches (from top of shoulder strap)

Width: 18 inches

Neckline: 11 inches deep (top of shoulder to bust)

I’ll add more info and photos along with measurements. Hard to capture in photos.

I have the dress styled in different ways including folded hem for a mini look and the straps around the neck for a halter look and also shown with belt.
