16mm Colour Optical Sound Film: 'Beetles and How They Live' (1992)
Produced for Channel 4

Chris, his mom, and his friend, Paul, embark on a beetle-hunting expedition. Their mission: to capture some of these fascnating insects for observation in a homemade terrarium. During their excursion, they find whirligig beetles, diving beetles, ladybirds, black ground beetles, and soldier beetles, to name a few. They identify the different species using a reference book. Beetles experience metamorphosis. Chris and Paul learn that beetles' lifecycles consist of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. During the larval stage, the beetles spend most of their time eating. During the pupal stage, the actual transformation into adulthood takes place. Chris, his mom, and Paul find beetles in each stage of development.
