Budgie

'Squawk'

MCA, UK, 1972

MKPS 2023

BY THE time Budgie reached this their second album they were firing on all six cylinders. 'Squawk' signalled Budgie's arrival at the gates of hard rock delirium. Guitarist Tony Bourge had really honed his riffing skills to perfection and Shelley's high pitched whine never sounded so wacky. 'Rocking Man' and 'Hot As A Docker's Armpit' are colossal slices of pure unadulterated riffing, heavier than lead weights and more crushing than Sabbaff at their peak. In fact I'd go so far to as to say that Bourge is, pound for pound, a better riffmeister than Iommi. I'll take a lot of flak for that but you know it's true. That's Budgie, the greatest power trio that ever stalked the face of the earth.

Pressing: MCA, UK, 1972

Vinyl: Good condition. Spindle marks visible on labels and signs of use - concentric needle scuffs but playback is very strong. Used but not abused. Grades as Vg+

Cover: Signs of use. Housed in superbly designed single cover illustrated by Roger Dean.  A little tired with one corner ding, a couple of light bends, no seam-splits and a few light creases. As you know, this album is almost impossible to score and never with a great cover. Grades as a solid Vg+

Inserts: None
