On September 12, 1959, the Vostok-L launch vehicle with the Luna-2 automatic interplanetary station was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Two days later, it became the first station in the world to reach the surface of the moon. The moment of landing was recorded by Soviet and foreign observatories.
