CYPRAEIDAE Bistolida stolida SPECIAL COLOR & SHAPE
 Philippines. Palawan. Brooke’s Point. 10-25 m. 2015.
23.9 mm. "A STOLIDA WHICH LOOKS LIKE A DECEPTOR

We refer to the figured in Lorenz & Hubert, of B. brevidentata deceptor, which has exactly the same shape, and the same basic coloration.

Only, in this Palawan shell, the big blotch as usually seen in the center of the stolida, is divided into 4 blotches, the two right ones both have more or less a rectangular shape. There is a small blotch below the 4 main blotches.

The teeth of the shell are too long to be called as deceptor: they extend well all over the base.

All by all, a magnificent cowry, to be placed in an advanced collection of either aesthetics or cowries.

This type of stolida or brevidentata is only known from the far southern Philippines and has never been found in Samar or in the Visayas." - Poppe

Another beautiful addition to your collection.
