Here we have a vintage copy of The Magazine of the Friends of Covent Garden from Christmas 1965.

The magazine is titled About the House and this edition is edited by Kensington Davidson.

It comprises around 48 pages illustrated with black and white photographs and with a front cover designed by Richard Smith, famed for his shaped canvases and large constructions painted in bright colours.

Featured articles include an overview of South African ballet dancer and acclaimed choreographer John Crank and his work; a look at the challenges faces by Swan Lake leading ladies as they go on tour; and a look at the then new December 1965 production of  Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella.

There is a photographic spotlight of Romeo and Juliet at Pinewood with Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn.

See photos for full contents lists.

The magazine shows signs of its age and previous handling but is fully legible with the images still clear.

It measures approx 11x8.5 inches in size.
