Reasearch gave me this info on these dolls: This is for reference only.

This Door of Hope mission doll are cloth unjointed bodies with hand carved pear wood heads and lower arms with delineated hands and fingers. The Door of Hope Mission was located in Shanghai, China, and operated from 1901-1950. These dolls were likely to have been somewhat early in the production years. Girls who were sold into slavery or prostitution by their families could seek safety in the mission and learn how to sew and make the clothing and bodies of the dolls and thus pay for their keep. The pear wood heads and lower arms were produced by male carvers in Ning-Po. The clothing, sewn by the rescued girls, are usually all original. She also has beautiful carved and painted facial features. She is all original and shows very minor wear from age. They are an important part of history and should be in every well rounded doll collection.
