I have here for sale a TWO VOLUME SET of books entitled NATURAL THEOLOGY; or, Evidences of the Existence and Attributes of The Deity, Collected from the Appearances of Nature by WILLIAM PALEY, D.D. Illustrated by a Series of Plates, and Explanatory Notes, by James Paxton, VOLS I & II Third Edition published by J Vincent, Oxford; Whittaker and Co; and Simpkin and Marshall, London, in 1836.  First published in 1826.  Paley's "Natural Theology" was written "to establish the truth of the agency and wisdom of the Deity from the admirable contrivances and mechanism displayed in natural objects, inferring from thence that the knowledge and power requisite for the formation of created nature must be infinite".  Volume I includes plates 1-23; with Volume II containing plates 24-39. 

Half bound in tan leather on beige hardboards with minor marks and a little wear to the leather at the corners.  Tan title block, black author block, with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spines.  Name of previous owner on the prelim.  Light foxing to some pages and plates.  Front hinge of Vol I cracked.  All pages are firm and the books are in very good condition.  Vol I: mxxiv, 246 pages.  Vol II: 300, plus Index to plates 2 pages.  22 x 14 cm.
