Artic whaling inspector and commander in royal Navy WW2
He was scientist on the RFA Discovery II July 1932 which was a research vessel, i believe he studied Whales and Whaling
At the outbreak of WW2 he sailed south as Whaling inspector on a factory ship and returned in May 1940. Despite his partial colour blindness he managed to join the RNVR Naval Weather Service. Saw active service in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic. He found himself in Japan with the British Naval Force in 1945for it's surrender. In 1947 he undertook fishery research as part of the Colonial service 
In most areas he served a book was written.
