Revell 1/72nd scale C-54D Skymaster, catalogue
number 04877, 2015 issue. Always makes
me think of a four-engined Dakota … which, I suppose, it is, being developed
from the DC-4 in the same way as the C-47 was from the DC-3. It’s a lovely, elegant aircraft. This is Revell’s impressive kit of the long-serving,
widely-exported aircraft. It’s another
of those kits that would benefit from a separate fuselage roof, which could be
left detachable to display the interior – it’s very complete, both the control and
crew cabins and in the rear passenger / cargo area, with detailed floors,
bulkheads, walls / linings, lots of seats with moulded-on harnesses for the
crew … there’s a lot of stuff in there.
The undercarriage is very well done, being highly detailed both in
itself, and in its housings and bays. Other
notable features include extremely nice engraved-line surface detailing, a full
suite of glazing, very well-detailed engines, and excellent wheel hub
detail. You can have the rear doors open,
if you like. All control surfaces are
separate and most can be left movable if you take care with the glue. Excellent decal sheet carries markings for two
USAF machines from 1948/49, one of which partook in the Berlin Airlift. Sad that the Russians don’t seem to have evolved
any since then – still the wannabe playground bullies of the world. It’s a big old kit in every sense and getting
it together will be a lot of fun, however the stash has to decrease as SABLE
has become my middle name and it would be nice to reclaim some of the spare
room. Kit parts are still sealed in the
manufacturer's inner bags. Kit is
complete and intact, unmade, with instructions and decals as new. Apologies for the higher than usual postage
on this item, it’s because it’s too big to go “small parcel” – it’s a big box.
All being well, I should have some more kits and decals listed just now - please feel free to have a look, and hopefully save some postage on any combined wins.
International bidders welcome, I’m signed up for the eBay Global Shipping Programme so costs for delivery to your part of the world should be shown on the listing (these numbers come from eBay – all I do is post the item to a UK address and eBay’s delivery partners take things from there). I’m always happy to combine items in one package to – hopefully - save you postage costs, and save me some parcelling-up. Shipping is always charged at cost, with options given to the buyer where appropriate, and (sturdy, careful) packaging is free. Any queries, feel free to message me and ask. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
