ThisAustralian Sapphire cabochon was cut and polished by my father many years ago - possibly around 2001-2002 but definitely after 1990 when he brought back a bunch of rough sapphires from a trip to Australia.  The blue round shaped stone is about 3 mm by 3 mm by 2 mm and weighs about 0.086 grams or 0.430 carats I found it in a bag marked "Australian sapphire" on a scrap of paper that was dated 12/11/01.

With his PhD in Mineralogy, my dad collected many hundreds of rocks and minerals.  He often cut and/or faceted some of the gemstones he collected and then made them into simple jewelry, or sold them to jewelers.  He told me that he "lets the stone dictate the shape" so that his cabochons truly emphasize the best the stone has to offer. Creating such unique shapes puts his work into a different category from the mass cut stones that come from Asia or India.

I have many other treasures from Dad's collections (as well as other family members) in my store.  Please take a moment to see them by going to the Visit Store link above.

I gladly combine shipping for purchases made on the same day. I have put the weights of each item into the program that factors the shipping cost so if you buy a bunch at the same time the postage will likely be accurate unless you are buying very light weight items that fall under the 1 ounce minimum listing weight.  Just ask for an invoice before you pay and I'll send you the actual shipping cost.   Again, combined shipping is for items paid for  on the same day -  I cannot hold items after you pay for them until you want an auction to end because of my one day shipping policy.
