Featuring a foreword by Monica Dickens and an introduction and notes by John D. Gordan, the Chief of the Berg Collection of English and American Literature at the New York Public Library.
This facsimile shows the author's notes on Sarah or Sairey Gamp, often referred to as Mrs. Gamp, a character featured in 'Martin Chuzzlewit' known for perpetuating the stereotype of unprofessional, messy and drunken nurses in the pre-reform Victorian era. Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was an extremely celebrated Victorian writer known for his works which document the social conditions of the time, and his works are still immensely popular today, inspiring regular adaptations.
Very Good used condition. c/w written in pencil on inside back cover. Some small marks and brown spots on inside cover.
