• Artist Roger Dean -- known for the fantasy landscapes he has created for album covers since the 1960s -- applied his exotic utopias to the codes of Valentino for the Mens Spring Summer 2020 show. On silk shirts, technical coats, knit sweaters and bags, Dean's fantasy islands and the creatures that inhabit them came to life.

  Maison Valentino and Roger Dean, an English artist of international fame, teamed up to give birth to a series of unique garments characterized by unmistakable prints for the SS20 Collection. Dean is internationally renowned for his remarkable style of album cover paintings, logos and organic architectural designs. The artist’s aesthetic touches different genres, ranging from Fantasy to New Age and all of his pieces are pervaded by a great sense of harmony, balance and peace. His illustrations are enhanced by the presence of undefined shapes (rocks that resemble plants that resemble clouds…), by the almost total absence of human figures and by the frequent use of paradox and imaginary elements.

  The central theme of this collaboration is the exploration of surreal and imaginary worlds, aiming at reflecting Maison Valentino’s constant will to mix its cultural heritage with alternative, new and unexplored realities. The man that Valentino proposes is a contemporary figure able to stand either as a pioneer and an innovator, combining different fits with bold prints.
