1890s RARE pocket travel CHESS SET, Cloisonné pieces, Gorgeous, colorful

I know about many games. I know little directly about Cloisonné, have learned a trace about it online. But I am pretty sure that each little round 1/2" chess piece is a little gem of Cloisonné art.

My impression from experience with various objects is that the set looks to be from 1890s. It has no maker name nor mark of country of origin nor way of seeing if it is referenced online anywhere. I may have gotten it on a trip to England about 40 years ago, but no clear memory about that, actually.

It is a pocket or travel set, the board (likely leather) built into the case, as you see. When you close it in the middle of a game, ever piece remains exactly where it is!

Open, it is 9"x 9". Closed it is 9 x 4.5 x 1, and would fit into a large enough pocket. It's very portable.

The colorful pieces all ingeniously easily totally lift out of the specially designed "open" closures each square has,
or pop back into any opening you want. There is no worry about pieces sliding around, as on some other travel sets. Pieces easily rotate their full 360 degrees in each opening, as a pic with the many pawns bunched illustrates.

There is an added row of 10 holes outside the edges of the playing area: these are for placing captured pieces as the game progresses.

Playing surface and apparatus are in good condition. The pix show that the set has been used a number of times. The latch case's black outside surface shows a few marks of usage and having been carried or moved about.

The 1/2 " diameter pieces are small and excellent, with the tiniest bit of Cloisonné loss on one piece, the turquoise King, at the lower left rim of its crown image. See 4th pic. Note that the pieces rotate easily and are also very well held in place inside each opening.

The many pix should give a good impression of the excellent design and flexibility of this set.

The case opens and closes with ease.
