An Original 1930s Silk & Net Intricately Beaded Charleston Flapper Dress UK 6 to 8

A stunning and rare original circa 1930s charleston dress with beaded embellishments.

General

Please note the dress is nearly 100 years old and due to its weight with the beading  and  silk lining it is fragile. It is not a dress to be worn out partying but rather a collectors piece that illustrates the history and detail of these dresses of the period.

The Underdress

The silk under dress is in a fawn colour with a floral embossed pattern. It does have thinning to the seams and discolouration and staining to the silk (please see last photos for examples of the wear and discolouration).

It is drop seamed at the waist with small pleats to give it the traditional flapper look synonymous with the Charleston era.

The Top Layer

In net with some stunning and intricate beading in floral patterns. Detailed beading to the neckline and bottom of the dress with lined larger beads giving it the traditional Art Deco look.

There are single beads dotted throughout that would have caught the light as one danced the night away.

The sleeves again are beautifully beaded.

There is some bead loss throughout and I think there is a historical repair to the net underarm on one side.

Measurements

I've listed as a UK 6 to 8 predominantly due to the small shoulder line making it very tight to put on despite there being plenty of material to the dress body. Again, I would stress this is a very fragile dress and could easily be ripped if worn.

The Dress is handmade made of fabrics of the era and has not been worn in many years. It is not a new item.

Shoulder To Shoulder Approximately - 15 1/2"

Armpit To Armpit Approximately - 17"
