A VERY PRETTY SELECTION OF 1916-1923 3rd WATERMARK 2/- BROWN KANGAROO STAMPS: 2021 CV APPROX $1,000+
The 3rd Watermark Die II 2/- Brown Kangaroo was printed in Australia between April 1916 and March 1923 (with the DIE II MAROON being delivered into stock in May 1924). These marsupials were printed from two Plates (an upper and lower) firstly by J.B. COOKE to May 1918 then by T.S. HARRISON to 1923. They were used as make-up for the higher telegram, parcel and bulk postal charges at the time. There were 13 printings (three by COOKE and ten by HARRISON) totalling 13,094,880 stamps. Through these various printings, NINE distinct shades for these brown marsupials have been identified. These are listed in THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS” (ACSC 2021) as:

► DEEP BROWN
► INTENSE DEEP BROWN
► REDDISH BROWN
► ANILINE RED-BROWN

The combined CV for this selection is around $935. This set excludes the ANILINE RED BROWN (mostly found overprinted NWPI) and the BROWNISHGREY (OS only). This group has been selected from many pages of browns to obtain a distinct a 'colour separation' between marsupials. This is a very nice group of BROWNS (just a few minor technical faults) which look great on a full page showing the amazing rage of shades and sub-shades of this very pretty colour.
