This is a silver coloured pendant necklace featuring St Christopher. On the front, it bears a picture of St Christopher and the border has the phrase "St Christopher protect us" on it.
References to St Christopher date back as far as the third century and there have been churches and monasteries named after him since the 7th century.
There are various legends about St Christopher over the centuries but his role as the patron saint of travellers seems to originate when a small child asked him to take him across the river. The journey across the river was fraught as the child appeared to become heavier but St Christopher managed it. When he questioned the child (once they'd safely reached the other side of the river), the child is said to have told him "You had on your shoulders not only the whole world but Him who made it. I am Christ your king, whom you are serving by this work." The child then promptly disappeared but the legend has lived on.
He is the patron saint of travellers and small images of him like the one on this pendant are often worn around the neck.
The pendant measures approximately 30mm tall and about 15mm wide. The chain is about 46cm long. Including the chain, it weighs around 8 grams.
It's made from alloy metal and is great for birthdays, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Christmas or any other gifting occasion.
