I have here for sale a book entitled ORNITHOLOGICAL DICTIONARY OF BRITISH BIRDS by Colonel G Montagu.  It is a second edition with a Plan of Study, and many new articles and original observations by James Rennie.  Published in 1831 by Hurst Chance & Co.  After the Plan of Study, there are chapters on the Linnaean and Quinary Systems, a list of Rudimental and Literary Naturalists and also philosophic naturalists and original observers.  The rest of the book gives description on the individual birds laid out alphabetically.  Each letter of the alphabet starts with a b/w engraving of one of the birds in that section.  U & V share one section, there are no birds beginning with X or Z, and E has two engravings, so there are 24 altogether, plus one bird diagram.

Brown cloth hardboards with a white label with black title lettering to the spine.  A few tears to the top and bottom of the spine and the rear hinge is split, so spine is starting to lift.  Spine and a section of the rear board are faded.  Corners a little bumped.  Pages clean and firm.  592 pages, 23 cm x 15 cm.
