I have here for sale a book entitled LEWIS'S NEW TRAVELLER'S GUIDE AND PANORAMA OF ENGLAND AND WALES.  Published by William Lewis in 1836.  It states that it contains 44 superior maps but although the maps I have match exactly what the contents say I should have, there are only 43, so I am not sure at all what the 44th should be or where it should appear in the book.  The frontispiece is a b/w map of England and Wales and then there are 42 county maps which includes 1 for North Wales and 1 for South Wales, each map accompanied by county information like distances between towns, principal inns for travellers, principal rivers, most remarkable views, and principal fairs.  Therefore I think that the publisher got it wrong with his '44' maps statement. If you are worried about this please discuss with me before buying - I believe that this book is complete but don't buy it if you think that there should be a 44th map. Before the county maps there is a list of mail coaches with the Inns set out from and the towns they pass through; postage of Letters from London to any place in the country; and a Table of Charges for a pair of Post-Horses from 5 to 20 miles.

Dark green hardboards with a once-white title label to the front board with black title lettering (this is very darkened).  Front hinge is split so front board is a little loose.  Wear to corners and board edges.  Internally though the pages are pretty clean and all pages and maps firmly bound.  Unpaginated.  16 x 12 cm.
