What is Exfoliation?

While regular skin cleansing is clearly beneficial, exfoliating on a regular basis once or twice a week for mild exfoliation, once or twice a month for more intense treatments can improve the results of your skin care routine and help rejuvenate your skin. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion. If you've had a pedicure, then you're familiar with the benefits of exfoliation. Foot calluses can develop due to daily pressure from workouts, walking and wearing those truly fashionable, but less-than-comfortable shoes that you adore. But after a little apricot scrub and a session with a pumice stone, your feet can feel soft, smooth and sandal-ready. While you wouldn't employ the exact same methods on your face, or even your arms and legs, the rest of your body certainly can benefit from a little exfoliating.

Do You Need an Exfoliating Cleanser?

One way that an exfoliating cleanser can help your skin is to buff away dead skin cells that clog pores and make them appear larger. Large pores can be difficult to cover with cosmetics and are usually thought of as unsightly, but large pores can actually be harmful to your skin because they are clogged with bacteria, sebum, and other impurities. Clogged pores can also cause acne, but when you use an exfoliating cleanser, the exfoliating beads work to clear away dead cells and then AHAs penetrate the skin to unclog pores. “Alpha Hydroxy Acids”, AHAs are what you can consider the Goo-Gone of dead skin debris. The weak bonds that keep that layer of dead skin on your hide are essentially dissolved with AHAs so your skin can let go of the dead stuff and let the new skin cells surface. AHAs are great chemical exfoliants for people with dry and sensitive skin, since they can help remove dead skin in the gentlest way possible that doesn’t involve manually buffing them off (which harms the new skin underneath too).

Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser Skin Benefits:

The gentle application of an exfoliant product enables the flaky old skin cells to be removed from the surface of the skin. This leaves the skin feeling fresh and more supple and also brightens the appearance. Without exfoliation the skin appears dry and rough and will also have a dull, tired-looking appearance. It is important to use a product and application method that is most suited to your skin type as overexfoliating may cause the skin to become irritated and dry.

Why Should Men Exfoliate?

Men would typically benefit more from exfoliation than women. It's a known fact that men have thicker skin than women. Exfoliation helps by softening and toning your skin. The shedding process unclogs pores, keeps your skin clean and reduces acne breakouts eventually. Unfortunately, most men tend to use an ordinary soap to wash their face. Soap can keep your skin clean but it won't make your skin look healthy. Also, its ingredients can block your pores leading to rough looking skin in the long run. Additionally, exfoliation also helps in exposing hair follicles, which in turn allows you a smooth shave.

Exfoliation Help Reduce The Occurrence Of Acne And Blackhead Breakouts:

Exfoliation, helps to reduce the occurrence of acne and blackhead breakouts. Acne-prone skin sheds extra skin cells more than other skin types, but the cells do not fall away. Instead, they stick to the skin, clogging pores and hair follicles. As this dead cell debris builds, the skin produces excess follicle oils—which leads to blackheads and blemishes. Think of regular exfoliation as “taking out the trash” and reducing the likelihood of clogged pores and acne. Exfoliating the tired, dead cells also speeds up the skin renewal process, allowing new healthy cells to take their place. This process turns your complexion from dull and dry to bright, vibrant, and smooth. In addition, regular exfoliation reduces fine lines and wrinkles and keeps your skin much softer!

The Health Benefits Of Green Tea For Skin:

Green tea has a number of benefits for the skin. It can be taken as a supplement, or consumed as a drink, but the greatest benefits occur when it’s applied topically. These days it can be found in a variety of skin care products including green tea moisturizers, cleansers, ointments, and creams. Because of the antioxidant properties of its polyphenols which prevent free radical damage, green tea can prevent the formation of lines and wrinkles on your skin. In particular, it can help to protect your skin from the damage that is caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Scientific studies have shown that green tea can protect against UVB. In one study using a topical green tea preparation on human volunteers it was shown that UVB associated damage was significantly reduced after exposure.

What Are the Benefits of Citric Acid for Skin:

Citric acid acts as a natural skin scrubber, and is very effective for de-pigmenting your skin. When applied to skin, citric acid can slough off dead skin cells and speed new cell turnover. The latter promotes new skin growth that can help alleviate the appearance of age spots, acne scars, small wrinkles and areas of uneven tone and texture. Homemade beauty products containing citric acid are more affordable than professional help but can be similarly effective if on a smaller scale. It is important to test all homemade beauty products on a small patch of skin several hours before using the product on your face. The underside of your forearm is an appropriate spot. To brighten oily skin and get a similar effect to that of a light chemical peel, try a milk mask that combines citric and lactic acids to slough away dead cells and even out skin tone.

Glycerol Soften Moisturize Skin:

Glycerol or glycerine, glycerin is present in all natural lipids (fats), whether animal or vegetable. It can be derived from natural substances by hydrolysis of fats and by fermentation of sugars; it also can be synthetically manufactured. Glycerin is a skin-replenishing and restoring ingredient, meaning it is a substance found naturally in skin. In that respect it is one of the many substances in skin that helps maintain a healthy look and feel, defending against dryness. Humectants such as glycerin have always raised the question as to whether or not they take too much water from skin. Pure glycerin (100% concentration) on skin is not helpful and can actually be drying. So, a major drawback of any humectant (including glycerin) when used in pure form is that it can increase water loss by attracting water from the lower layers of skin into the surface layers of skin, where the water can easily be lost to the environment—that doesn’t help dry skin or any skin type. For this reason, glycerin and humectants in general are always combined with other ingredients to soften skin. Glycerin combined with other emollients and/or oils is a fundamental cornerstone of most moisturizers.

Propylene Glycol & Skin Care:

Propylene glycol has hundreds of uses in the manufacturing of modern products. Though there are more toxic forms of the chemical used in antifreeze and degreasing agents, that which is found in skin-care products such as moisturizers and serums is considered safe, according to Dow, a major manufacturer of propylene glycol, or PG. The formula acts as a “humectant, preservative or stabilizer,” and is an ingredient contained in over 4,000 different types of cosmetic products.
