This is a memoir of a soldier in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery, battery D. This artillery battery fights in the Western Theater of the War. The man serves as a saddler in the battery and witnessed severe combat in several major actions. During the Battle of Chickamauga the battery was over run and some of the guns lost. The soldier in this book was even given special commendation for helping save some of the guns during the Battle.
