My personal experience with my personally owned module:

I have a fully upgraded set up and use my pip-boy as a radio in the mornings while I get ready for work. It takes AAA batteries, but you don’t get a ton of hours out of each set. I upgraded to high capacity AAA batteries and they probably got me to the point of only needing charging twice a month. The radio itself isn’t loud or impressive in and of itself. What’s cool about it is the nostalgic sounds it makes when turning off/on, and when you switch stations. It was a pricey piece, but I’ve added it to my almost daily routine and don’t regret it at all.
