Listed artist Paolo Stirrat was born in the city of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy. . Paulo was fascinated by the ships passing through the Mediterranean Sea where he could watch the boats and be a part of the sea, and that is where he started drawing and selling to the tourists until such time when he could afford to oils and canvases. In 1950, he signed on a freighter arrived in New York and got a job as a bus boy. The following year, he married an Italian American girl and last lived in New York where he painted for a living. Stirrat primarily painted seascapes on canvas. Most of his work was done 1930-1970.

His technique is described as medium to light impasto, and he often used a pallet knife in place of a brush with unconventional use of color. This artist has a strong and growing base of followers, including a Facebook page created by fans of his work.
