Two 8GB OWC PC3-8500S DDR3-1066 SoDIMMs, 1.5V

P/N OWC8566DDR3S8GB

Here is a working pair of 8GB DDR3 SoDIMMs made by OWC (Other World Computing) to handle memory transfer rates up to 1066 MT/s.  These are standard, unbuffered, non-ECC memory modules. They require a 1.5V  204-pin socket.  Each is a double-sided SoDIMM with eight Micron chips on each side (2Rx8).   More importantly, these are compatible with many of the first Macs which used DDR3 memory: 2009 and 2010 MacBooks, Mac minis, and iMacs.  These will max out those Macs, but faster, cheaper memory will not.

Memory speeds are supposed to be backwards compatible.  In other words, if your system needs 1066 MT/s DDR3, you should be able to buy DDR3 RAM rated at 1333 or 1600 MT/s, and it should work at less than its full potential.  However, I have found that 2009 and 2010 Mac require PC3-8500 memory, having tried faster DDR3 memory in them many times, consistently unsuccessfully.

I have tested this memory successfully in a 2010 Mac mini.  Buyer will receive the exact two 8GB SoDIMMs pictured here.
