This Vintage EXCELLENT OUTSTANDING, Early 1952-1955 Stetson 7X Clear Beaver, “Open Road” was found inside that Older Stetson box! The size is 7-3/8, read below. We know the tags states 7-1/4 but this measures to a PERFECT 7-3/8!
These 7X Clear Beaver hats are so rare to find! Especially the Open Road model! And still in such EXCELLENT condition too!
That beautiful Bound Brim edge really stands out on this Open Road. It could easily be shaped into a Wide Brim Fedora or a standard Open Road Cattleman shape. The only shaping that we NO longer do is that Pencil Roll! You can see that the hat is from the 1952-1955. The size tag (7-1/4), the leather sweatband design and the logo and that thin plastic overlay on the hat liner and the printed STETSON TwentyFive on the leather sweatband. This plastic overlay is the ones that were used after the “Onion-Skin” liner covers.
This was their best and highest quality hat made at that time! Actually made by the original Stetson Hat Company and NOT HATCO! This is an OUTSTANDING hat! That 7X Clear Beaver quality is EXTREMELY Soft and Thick! It’s so easily “Hand Bashed” and the shape you hand bash it will stay in that shape! Nothing like it in today’s market! Even the new “PURE BEAVER” hats cannot compare to these older vintage TwentyFives! The new ones are just to stiff and not pliable like this one!
So dad is telling me the “Clear Beaver” designation was because Stetson used the Beaver Belly from the Beaver to make this hat? The Beaver Belly fur is softer and more water repellant that the rest of the Beaver Fur is. And this is very soft and pliable! Just as advertised!
It’s easily “hand-bashed” and easily steamed into nearly any style you’d like!
This is an outstanding wide (2.9 inches) brim, that’s when it’s shapes as a fedora. As a cattleman Open Crown it’s 2.75 inches, because of the rolled brim.
The color is the vintage Stetson Taupe color. The picture of the whole underside is the best representation.
This can easily be “Hand-Bashed” into nearly any shape and will hold the shape! Or dad could steam a shape into the hat? Maybe you’d like a cattleman, standard fedora or nearly any shape you’d like to shape it! If you want it changed you will need to write to dad.
Note: The original hat box on the bottom has been sold to one of dad’s hat collectors. They were desperate to buy it so dad agreed.
The 1960s Stetson hat box is included in this sale! If you pay the extra shipping cost? The box is still in very good condition, there is a bit of minor paper loss and a small ding on the top, see picture. The hat holding insert set is still there and in very good condition!

Ok now the particulars, color is the vintage Stetson Taupe color. The newer taupe is a darker color compared to these old vintage taupe color.
And like always we measure each hat 3 times using different methods to verify the actual size!
We know the tag states 7-1/4! But This measures to a PERFECT 7-3/8 at 23-1/8 inches.
Like most of these Vintage Stetson hat that were made pre-1970 did not have any hat sizing standardization back then. Until the Tilley hat sizing chart was agreed upon by most of the hat manufacturers. We use that same chart to determine hat sizes.

Coat trolley string is out of dad’s vintage dead stock. It’s a great match for this hat and is still very elastic. It can be sewn to the hat by any decent tailor or left as is as a decoration, just trim off the extra elastic cord.
