The True Story of an Astronaut who found that the Moon
Wasn’t enough to satisfy his Desire for Success.
Written and Autographed by Apollo 16 Moonwalker Charlie Duke!
Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot was Air
Force Lt. Colonel Charlie Duke. He was a
Group 5, 1966 Astronaut selection. Duke served
as Capcom for Apollo 11 Lunar Module descent.
He communicated to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and uttered the famous
reply to Armstrong’s “The Eagle has landed.”
With “Roger Tranquility, we copy you down. You had a lot of guys about to turn blue down
here.”
The Apollo 16 mission was the second
to last Apollo moon landing and Duke, alongside Commander John Young, completed
three Lunar EVAs (extra vehicular activities).
They spent a total of 20 hours, 14 minute and 55 seconds walking and working
the lunar surface and brought a total of 213 pounds of lunar rocks. These rocks are still being studied to this
day. Duke is only one of 12 men to have
to have walked on the moon and one of four surviving Moonwalkers.
Moonwalker is an autobiography of
Duke’s life not only as an astronaut, but as an Air Force officer, a husband
and father, and his life after Apollo.
At age 36, what else can top walking on the moon? Although the book devotes a lot of chapters
to his lunar mission, there is much more to his story. For Charlie Duke, it was calling to Christ
and he formed the Duke Ministry for Christ in New Braunfels, Texas where he
talks about his calling even to this day.
The book is a fascinating read from a true American hero. The hard- back book and dustcover are in mint
condition and Mr. Duke has autographed and added “Apollo 16 LMP.” This is his ACTUAL autograph, not a copy, not
signed on a book plate, and not an autopen.
