I found a tape head cleaner as well as a Sony tape. I’m including it at no extra cost to the original price.

This unit had what I thought was a power issue where it sometimes will turn on, then directly off. However, I realized it was in a “slave mode” and set the command to VTR-1. It seems to have fixed it and powers on and off with no issues for a couple power cycles. I can send a video upon request. I’m not positive this was the case, but it’s not auto shutting off anymore.
