This vintage hardback is not in perfect condition but all the same it is a compelling account of the start of World War ll in Britain.

It was published in 1942 by His Majesty’s Stationery Office. It was issued for the Ministry of Home Security by the Ministry of Information. It is titled Front Line, the Official Story of the Civil Defence of Britain.

It comprises 160 pages - 16 chapters - covering the first bomb to fall on Britain - in the Orkneys - through the onslaught on London, the Battle of the Flames, the Blitz, attacks on towns and ports, and the Army of Civil Defence.

It is illustrated with black and white photographs.

The book has some significant outward imperfections. Its dustjacket is missing and the book has been backed with greenpaper almost in schoolbook style, with the title penned on the front cover. It has an overall aged feel and musty aroma, and significant signs of previous handling - see photos. But it nevertheless remains fully legible and intact. It measures approx 9.5x7.5 inches in size.
