The politically incorrect description of this item--which is on the envelope copy, by the way-- is as much indicative of its time and place as the design itself. It's a very late 50s/early 60s look--a sanitized version of the native dress of at least one native American tribe, the Navajo, and the traditional garb of large swaths of the Hispanic population of the American Southwest. That said, it's a really pretty look, including as it does two versions of the blouse with a cummerbund and lots of trim on a full flounced skirt. Context is always important; whatever the original implications of this design--which was popular in the 50s and 60s and into the 70s--it's still a great, fun look.
