This
Superb Antique Hand Knotted Yomud Turkoman Hatchli or Engsi Rug shows a
classic Design Layout of four main panels with a rich and gorgeous
Aubergine ground on which are dotted symbolic flowers of geometric form
with end panels displaying linked flower motifs.
The
Fabulous Vegetable Dyes, especially the Superb Aubergine, Fine Weaving
Style, Use of Lustrous, Hand Spun, Locally Grown Wool and still intact
Two Strand Selvedges Dyed a Rare Sky Blue Indigo are obvious Proof of an
origin among a Yomud Turkoman Tribal Group Roaming the West Turkestan
Region of Central Asia over the period 1880 to 1900.
Turkoman Rugs
of this form were created by the women of the tribe as dowry items and
usually used as doorway or sleeping rugs for the tent and were the most
treasured forms of weaving for the tribe.
This excellent example
measures 192cm x 128cm (6ft 4 inches x 4ft 2.8 inches and in my opinion,
based on many years of dealing in Antique Turkoman Rugs is in Very Good
condition for its Age with a little Damage at the 2 top Corners and a
Very Small Restoration.
The Rug Has Been Hand Washed.
