Verge escapement
A Continental verge in a gilt case, with a nice enamel decoration protected in a glass exhibition case.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, large silvered regulator disk and four square baluster pillars.
Unsigned.
There are a few marks on the top plate, but in generally good condition and running well.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is in reasonable condition though with some tiny flakes around the centre and damage around the winding aperture which has been filled.
Breguet style brass hands.
CASE : A good heavy gilt exhibition case, glazed to both back and front.
The enamel plaque on the back shows two girls in a pastoral scene, all within a finely decorated border.
The metalwork is all in good condition, though with most of the gilding worn from the outer surfaces. The hinges and catches are fine and the bezel and back cover both snap shut.
The enamel plaque on the back is in reasonable condition, though with some cracks and restoration, mostly to the top right hand quarter.
The high dome crystal is fine.
This watch was made around 1780, probably in France or Switzerland.
