I have here for sale a FOUR VOLUME SET of books entitled DIARY AND CORRESPONDENCE OF SAMUEL PEPYS, F.R.S. Secretary to the Admiralty in the Reigns of Charles II and James II.  The Diary deciphered by the Rev J Smith, a.m. from the Original Shorthand MS. in the Pepysian Library.  With a Life and Notes by RICHARD LORD BRAYBROOKE The Fourth Edition, Revised and Corrected.  In Four Volumes VOLS I-IV published for Henry Colburn by his successors Hurst and Blackett, London, in 1854.  Volume I includes 2 full-page b/w plates and a fold-out facsimile of an Extract from the Short-Hand M.S. Diary.  Volume II includes 2 full-page b/w plates.  Volume III includes 1 full-page b/w plate and a fold-out Map showing A Scheme of the Posture of the Dutch Fleete.  Volume IV includes 2 full-page b/w plates.

Tan calf leather boards with a gilt border showing minor marks and a little wear.  Five raised bands with burgundy title blocks, brown number blocks, gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spines.  Gilt lettering on the number block of Volume I has rubbed away, and the leather on the number block of Volume IV is missing.  Wear to the tops of the spines.  Marbled endpapers and page edges.  Browning to title pages and light foxing to prelims.  Tear to map in Volume III.  Gift inscription and bequest note from the Rt Hon Sir William Erle to the Rt Hon Sir Henry Keating on the prelim.  All pages are tight and the books are in very good condition.  Vol I: xi, 427 pages.  Vol II: 484 pages.  Vol III: 481 pages.  Vol IV: 468 pages.  22.5 x 14.5 cm.

Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK.  If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them into one parcel - so you save money. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
