Stud Removal Nuts for Stanley and Record Cast Iron Planes. Also Keen Kutter, Winchester, Millers Falls, Craftsmen, Dunlop, Wards Master, Wards Lakeside, Rev-O-Noc and later Union Planes.

If you have a 9/32"-24 left hand thread, these nuts will allow removing the Plane Iron Depth Position Stud from the frog without damage to the stud or the adjustment wheel. See #8A on the attached Stanley Plane Parts Diagram to locate the Plane Iron Depth Position Stud. These Stud Removal Nuts are machined a few thousandths larger to allow easy threading, even on the old rusty ones.

Stud Removal Instructions:
1) Remove the adjustment nut (wheel) from the stud by turning in a clockwise direction. If the adjustment wheel is difficult to turn, use soft jaw pliers or Cannon plug pliers to avoid damage.
2) After removing the adjustment wheel, add a few drops of penetrating oil where the stud threads into the frog and let it soak in for a few minutes.
3) Thread on both Stud Removal Nuts past the rounded end of the stud and tighten against each other with two 7/16 inch open end wrenches.
4) Now turn the rear Stud Removal Nut, the one closest to the frog, in a clockwise direction with the open end wrench and remove the stud.

User Comments:
"These are fantastic! If you restore planes and need to remove the adjustment stud then you need these! Other methods may or may not work. But every stuck stud I have came out with these."

Such a simple tool to solve a very specialized problem restoring old Stanley bench planes. As soon as I heard about them I searched, found them here, and bought them. Shipped promptly and packaged well. Tried them right out of the package and cleanly removed an adjustment screw I was struggling with. So much nicer than trying to balance enough force to twist with smooshing the threads. I never thought I’d find nuts like to fit the bizarre Stanley threads.

“Wow! These Stud Removal Nuts work great. I immediately tried removing the stud from the frog of a plane I am working on and it came right out without any problem. So nice to be able to use a wrench to remove the stud rather than vice grips on an old mangled Depth Adjustment Knob. Thanks so much, and also for the fast delivery.”
