I have here for sale a superbly illustrated book showing London at the start of the Victorian era. There are two books in one volume.  The first is:

THE HISTORY OF LONDON: Illustrated by Views of London and Westminster.  Engraved by John Woods from original drawings by Shepherd, Garland, Salmon, Topham, Clarke, Browne, Roberts, etc.  Edited by William Gray Fearnside and Thomas Harral.  Published in 1838 by Orr, Ackermann, Siimpkin Marshall etc.  34 plates including the Vignette and the Frontispiece.

The second book is entitled SELECT ILLUSTRATED TOPOGRAPHY THIRTY MILES AROUND LONDON and has plates drawn by Marshall and engraved by Hemshall. 34 plates including the Vignette and the

Frontispiece (this is the Hall of Mirrors plate which is also called for at page 107). Across the two books there are a total of 68 b/w steel engraved plates.

Lovely binding of half red leather on orange marbled hardboards.  5 gilt decorated raised bands to the spine with gilt decorative panelling and gilt title lettering.  Some rubbing to hinges, raised bands and corners.  Marbled paper just starting to lift at fore-edge.  Marbled endpapers.  Ex-library book so stamp to front endpaper and very neat little stamps on the rear of each plate, and nothing on the fronts.  Some darkening to edge of pages but otherwise quite clean throughout.  Binding tight. Condition: very good. 212 + 158 pages.  28 cm x 22 cm.
