I have here for sale a large folded colour map entitled THE WORLD ON MERCATOR'S PROJECTION WESTERN PART by Neele.  Published by T Cadell and Davies, London in 1812.  It covers the area from Kamtschatka in the Russian far east on the left edge, across North America and South America, part of Greenland and then UK and western Europe to the right edge.  South Seas to bottom edge.  United States is shown in green, prior to the Louisiana Purchase which is still shown in yellow.  It is one of the plates from Pinkerton's Modern Atlas which was his main cartographic work.  Pinkerton was a celebrated master of the Edinburgh school of cartography which lasted from roughly 1800 to 1830. Pinkerton, along with John Thomson & Co. and John Cary, redefined cartography by exchanging the elaborate cartouches and fantastical beasts used in the 18th century for more accurate detail.

One horizontal fold across the middle and one small tear to the right side edge of the fold.  In very good condition.  It measures 84 x 55 cm.
