💫 Dell Precision 7740 Mobile Workstation 💫

The Dell Precisions is a well-built system, top end very powerful and recently worth several £1000s. This is the cheapest 7740 system available on offer with such a high specification of UHD screen and Quadro P4200 etc.

Specifications:

CPU - i7-9850H @ 2.6GHz x 6 cores & 12 Hyperthreading cores.

RAM - 32GB DDR4

SSD - 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD drive, several other slots in the system for further upgrades

Screen - sharp 17.3" UHD 3840 x 2160

GPU - Dedicated powerful NVidia Quadro P4200 8GB GDDR5, memory speed at 7132MHz, memory bus speed 256 bit, this is an engineering sample GPU, therefore can perform better in some aspects but can potentially develop or have some issues.

Charger - 240W charger supplied

Keyboard - US layout, very similar to the UK version, can be seen pictured

Condition - Scratches, can be seen on the top cover in the pictures. The bottom cover needed modifications on several of the clips as the early model version frame was slightly different to the later editions, some clips were clipped off, the battery cover section is a bit sticky to push into place. It's labelled as Precision 7730 on the bottom cover, as the motherboard was upgraded from the 7730 to 7740. Also the earlier edition frame didn't have the same space for sim tray on motherboard, so was disassembled.

Overall cosmetic condition is good, some scratches from normal wear. Please bear in mind when the motherboard was upgraded from 7730 to 7740, the Service Tag number of 7730 was put on the 7740 motherboard. The majority of drivers update normally on the Windows auto updates, only the Graphics card driver was found to need to be installed manually. If using the Dell auto update utility, it will see the Dell service tag as for the 7730 system of course. But as can be seen in Windows and the BIOS it does show as the 7740 of course. I personally always have downloaded from the Dell website manually inserting the system model number and installing the relevant drivers that I require to install, it's straight forward and I do definitely recommend this method. It's also something that's rarely done. The hardware Dell check shows the system tested as working fine. Pictures of some of the result can be seen in the pictures.
