It has been preserved with Borax and sealed with clear polyurethane on the outside to preserve the natural color. The underside of the shell has been whitened with hydrogen peroxide to produce a bone white finish. Any defects or "battle scars" are completely natural and not visible when viewed from a distance. This shell in particular has very pronounced points and noticeable growth rings. It is also dark brown in color with swirls of grays and lighter shades of brown.
